The conference invites reflections on design not only as a final outcome, but as a dynamic field of thinking, making, researching, teaching, presenting, and practicing across academic, professional, social, technological, and ecological contexts.

The title RE: DESIGN opens several possible readings in addition to “regarding design”: responding to design, returning to design, and redesigning design itself. It suggests a renewed inquiry into how architecture comes into being and how design processes can be critically reconsidered in a time of changing tools, expanded research cultures, ecological urgency, participatory expectations, and shifting professional realities. The secondary title, A Work IN Process, foregrounds the unfinished, iterative, experimental, and situated nature of design. It points to the fact that architecture is shaped not only by final forms, but also by sketches, models, drawings, conversations, doubts, failures, revisions, site readings, regulations, client relations, collective decisions, technological tools, and pedagogical frameworks.

The 2027 edition of RIXARCH invites contributions that investigate how architectural ideas emerge, evolve, and move between intuition and method, imagination and evidence, individual authorship and collective negotiation, analogue and digital media, research and practice, academic studio and professional office. The conference seeks to discuss design as a process of knowledge production, communication, experimentation, and decision-making. It welcomes perspectives from architecture, design, art, urban studies, pedagogy, technology, practice-based research, and related fields.
